Well, ever since Ethan gave his awesome talk in primary (on the day when they had no microphone! he was so disappointed!) I have been telling him that he can bear his testimony in sacrament meeting if he wants to. A few weeks ago in primary, he asked if he could bear his testimony since there was a mic and Sister Barlow let him (i was leading the music that day) and that was pretty fun. Today, I mentioned at breakfast that if he wanted to bear his testimony in sacrament meeting he could, and his eyes lit up and he got excited and started sort of playing it out in his mind.
After a few testimonies, he decided he wanted to go, and he had told me earlier that he wanted to go up all by himself. So Kyle went up with him but hung back to let Ethan do it alone--and he was scared once he actually got up there and wanted Kyle to help, but Kyle just said, "just say what you know and prompted Ethan on the first two words... "I know" and Ethan took it from there.
HE said something like this:
"I know the church is true.
I know I'm really a child of God.
I know that everything I do...is kinda fun...
(big laugh from the congregation...HUGE smile spreading across Ethan's face. Watch out, world. This one's gonna love making a crowd laugh)
I know the scriptures are true.
I know that when we read them we get the power to read..." (sort of a mix of scripture power and super readers, but that's okay, right?)
Then he started to kind of ramble
"I know that...the things at church are...just to look at..."
So Kyle sort of helped him finish up
"In the name of Jesus Christ Amen."
We were beaming, and Ethan was really happy and proud of himself. One of my friends got up later and said, "Ethan, I wish everything I did was fun!" And then bore her testimony of the gospel and how knowing the plan of salvation makes it so we can find joy in everything. It was neat to see Ethan totally paying attention to what she said and know that he was a part of the ward and that people listened to him when he talked.
Cool stuff. Love that guy!
PS--Ethan is a science NUT. We have been freezing water (in mickey tray, thanks Zach!), melting ice, and microwaving water until it disappears. We have been balancing forks on wooden sticks. We have been reading tons of books about rockets and gravity. He's been naming planets and talking about them. We've been watching Sid the Science Kid and Ethan has his own science journal where we write down his questions. It's fun! Just FYI.
