The loyalty of the house elf throughout the series though arguably foolish and oft wasted on undeserving witches and wizards allowed Harry to defeat Voldemort. Dobby's character appeared early on in the series doing nothing more than adoring Harry as the boy who lived and causing him inordinate amounts of trouble both at the Dursley's and at Hogwarts.

1. Dobby first appeared in Book 2 to save Harry' life by risking his own to warn him not to return to Hogwarts as Lucius Malfoy on the errand of Voldemort planned to re-open the Chamber of Secrets and
2. Ultimately gave his life to once again save Harry from the Malfoy's in Book 7. Killed by Bellatrix Lestrange while disapparating with Harry to safety.Whereas Kreacher who made his first appearance in Book 6 loathed Harry before they met.
3. Kreacher, however twice sped on the location and destruction of the third horcrux. Once with Regaulus Black and a second time at the direction of Harry by tracking down Mundungus Fletcher who knew the whereabouts of the locket.

Both Dobby and Kreacher risked their lives for the greater good. Dobby's first priority even while dying was the safe arrival of Mr. Harry Potter and Kreacher after watching his master's murder still captured the locket of Slytherin. Without both Dobby and Kreacher and their oft times foolish loyalty The Dark Lord might never have been defeated.
